The Appealing Culture of Western Luzon
Ilocos Sur is a province in the
Philippines Located in the Ilocos Region in Luzon. Its capital is the city of
Vigan. Vigan is known for its preserved Spanish colonial and Asian
architecture. The place is also known for the celebration that features
cultural traditions and, they call it the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival, this is
to show the treasures of the people to the whole world, it is also a time to
commemorate the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province since it was separated
on the year 1818.
Tradition is a belief, which
symbolizes the group itself, that is passed down from a group of people to
generations. Tradition gives comfort and a feeling of belongingness. It also improves
and strengthen the values, freedom, faith and integrity and also
responsibilities. The celebration of
Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is not as energetic as from the past years of
celebration, but this proves that the people are still uniting despite a
challenge where everyone should keep following the protocols came. This shows
that people should keep traditions alive as it reinforces the unity in a group
of people.
Residents of the province Ilocos Sur
have a simpler celebration of the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival this year. Unlike
the past years where it is being celebrated for a whole month, the festival is
being celebrated for as short as a week but this doesn’t stop the people from
uniting and having a good time for this shorter time of celebration.
